Despite being thousands of miles away, communication with your family and friends from China is quite easy and not overly inexpensive. In addition, our student lounge with its high speed DSL line and free internet access makes staying in touch very convenient.
|
Telephone: Each room on campus and in the hotel is equipped with a telephone that can make and receive both local and international phone calls.
ATT, MCI, Sprint can be accessed as local calls through their local access numkbers:
ATT USA Direct: 10811    MCI: 10812    Sprint: 10813
Family and friends from the States may want to try 10-10-834. It's hit and miss, but when it works it's about 25-33 cents per minute.
( Note: IP or IC phone cards are pretty affordable and very convenient to purchase. IC cards can be used for local calls from pay phones, while IP cards are used for international calls. IC cards can be used internationally, but the rates are much higher than IPs. IP cards can be used for domestic calls, but most pay phones do not accept them. Cards come in 50-500 RMB denominations and calls cost approximately 50 cents per minute to the US. Also, www.dialpad.com offers free phone calls to the US through the internet. Another site for free telephone calls to many other countries is www.hottelephone.com. For calls to Singapore or Hong Kong try www.e001.com )
The EducAsian office telephone number is (8610) 6234-7904. Our staff is available 24 hours a day by cell phone.
Cell Phones:Many students find that once they become involved in class, EducAsian activities, and day-to-day life here, they are not easily reached in their rooms. Cell phones are a relatively inexpensive way to stay in contact with friends, associates, and business contacts. Standard GSM phones operate on a phone balance recharge system allowing program participants to pay only for the minutes that they use and not sign up with a phone plan.
EducAsian provides a cell phone rental service for interested students.
Fax: The EducAsian office fax phone number is 86-10-6234-7905. Students can receive faxes from our office. There is a Business Center in the Xi Jiao lobby where faxes can be sent and received as well. Also, there is an IDD Center on campus where faxes can be sent and received and where pre-paid local and international phone cards can be purchased. The IDD Center's hours are: 8 AM - 12 Noon; 1 PM - 6 PM; and 7 PM - 10 PM.
E-Mail: Free internet access for EducAsian program participants is provided in our student lounge. There are several internet centers located in close proximity to the EducAsian lounge and the University campus. The price for the use of the internet in these locations ranges from 8-10RMB per hour, and the speed is usually very fast. If you haven't done so already, you should set up an e-mail account on the web at hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc. You can also use telnet to access your university e-mail account.
