Passport: You must have a valid passport with at least six months left until its expiration. Also, the Chinese visa will take up a full-page so if you’re out of room you will need to have pages added. A valid passport is 100% your responsibility!
Visa:Chinese letters of invitation and visas will be obtained by EducAsian in most cases, and if not we will provide you with all of the necessary information.
Temperature / Weather: China is a big country with greatly differing climates from season to season and region to region. Below are some general guidelines.
Summer: Hot! Hot! Hot! 90 degrees plus in Beijing! And hotter in the rest of China (except Kunming where the weather is pleasant year round Not as hot in Qingdao but quite humid. Shanghai and surrounding areas will be hot and humid. Evenings will be warm but comfortable. Expect rain, as summer is the "rainy season" in most of Eastern China.
Spring/Fall: Pleasant all over
Winter: Cold; especially in Beijing. Shanghai, Qingdao and other cities are cold but easily tolerable.
Time Change / Time Zones: There is only one time zone in China, and it is eight hours ahead of GMT, so if it is 12:00PM GMT, then it is 8:00 PM in China. China is twelve hours ahead of New York City, and 15 hours ahead of Los Angeles during Standard time, and 13 hours and 16 hours ahead respectively during Daylight Savings Time. China does not employ daylight savings time. In addition, despite its vast size, China is all in one time zone, based on Beijing time.
Electricity: The electric voltage in China is 220 Volts (versus 110 in the US). In order to use a hair dryer, electric razor, or other electric appliances, you will need a converter. In addition to a converter, it is a good idea to buy adapters as outlets in China are shaped differently from outlets in the USA and Europe.
