This group of islands and small bit of mainland China has served as a chief financial and trade center since it was siezed by the British and made into a colony in 1843, and has only grown more important and vibrant after the Chinese government retained control and established the area as a Special Administrative Region in 1997. Boasting one of the busiest ports and a unique and beautiful skyline, Hong Kong is truly one of the great cities of the world.

Located in the southern part of China, Hong Kong is an intriguing blend of Cantonese and British influence. Most residents speak the native Cantonese dialect as well as Mandarin and English. Once known for its cheap manufacturing and exports, Hong Kong is now a sophisticated economy and home to some of Asia's biggest companies and financial institutions. While the prices have also gone up, Hong Kong is still a shopper's paradise with extensive selection of electronics, software, clothing and jewlery to name just a few.

Built on a hilly island, Hong Kong is full of dramatic vistas and beautiful views. With English having been the official language of most of the universities, Hong Kong also provides a unique opportunity for EducAsian participants to study in a wide variety of subjects. A number of custom programs can be designed for students who wish to experience China while continuing to study subjects in their own field. HOng Kong is also the final stop on EducAsian's Business, Language & Culture Program. (See the links at the bottom of the page for information on the other programs offered in Kunming.)
