Located an hour and a half from Beijing, Tianjin has the third largest population in China and is one of the major economic and cultural centers of Northern China as well as one of the busiest ports.

In addition to the classic European style architecture remnants of Tianjin's history as a foreign concession, Tianjin's major attractions are the antique market and food street. Tianjin's antique market contains goods from all over China. Along Tianjin's food street it is possible to sample some of the city's most famous delicacies, most notably the mahua or dough twists. It is also possible to try exotic dishes like dog and snake.

Tianjin is a more maneagable city compared to its busy neighbor, Beijing, yet close enough to offer students the best of both worlds as wellas facilitating the practice of Chinese outside of class due to the comparitively small amount of foreigners in Tianjin.
