Sound too good to be true? Well there are a few conditions... This exciting program based in Shenzhen (just across the border from Hong Kong) operated by EducAsian in conjunction with the University of Memphis offers participants the chance to teach English and learn Mandarin Chinese.

Description of the Program:

Teach English speaking and listening skills
and learn Mandarin Chinese
-
Each semester earn credits from the
University of Memphis: 3 credits in teaching English as a Foreign Language
(TEFL) and 3 credits in Mandarin Chinese.

Teach 15 classes per week, 45 minutes per
class. Class size averages 55 people, but there is no written work.
- Progran dates are from August 19, 2002
to June 30, 2003.
- Application deadline is June 7, 2002
What you receive:
- Round trip international air ticket to
China
- Free faculty housing and some meals.
Apartments have air conditioning, telephone and TV. Married couples
can be accommodated, but no children.
- Stipend of RMB 3,000 per month (aproimately
$360)
- Paid 3 week vacation for Chinese New Year
in January / February
- Vacation travel bonus RMB 4,000 (aproximately
$480) at the end of the program

Requirements:
- Native speaker of English
- College degree (or college senior by September
2001)
- At least one course in TEFL (at any college)
or an intensive TEFL course or one year of teaching experience abroad.

- Good health (lots of stairs and no elevators!)
Standard Chinese medical exam, required for work visas is given upon arrival
in China.
Costs and Financial Aid:
- Program fee of $150 upon acceptance into
the program
- University of Memphis Tuition of $2000
(total for 2 semesters) or $2400 if enrolling for graduate credits in English
- International Student Identity Card (for
medical insurance) $22
- Chinese Visa fees
