| Since China began opening up to the outside world in the late 1970’s, Beijing Language and Culture University, commonly known as Yu Yan Xue Yuan, or Bei Yu, has been the premier institution for foreigners learning Chinese. With over 3,000 foreign students studying their a year, and almost 30,000 foreign alumni, BLCU is by far the largest and most popular school for students of Chinese from all over the world. This allows for a variety and great depth of course offerings not found at other schools. In fact many of the textbooks used for studying Chinese around the world are published here. Bei Yu has over a 100 Chinese teachers and a very modern classroom building and language lab. In addition, there are some 6,500 Chinese students of foreign languages enrolled as well. This creates a wonderful atmosphere for language and cultural exchange. Located in the North-West part of Beijing in the Haidian District, Bei Yu is part of a college town area that includes China’s most famous schools such as Beijing University and Qinghua. There is a lot of energy, that is reflected in the number of hip bars and high tech firms and marketplaces. (The area is also known as China’s Silicon Valley) Programs are offered throughout the year of varying lengths and accommodating all levels of study. As the majority of EducAsian students spend at least some time here, our office and China headquarters are located adjacent to the campus where the EducAsian Student Lounge and Multi-Media Resource Center is located. |
