| The University of Hong Kong is the oldest tertiary education institution in Hong Kong. Its roots go back to 1887 when the College of Medicine was established. In 1911 the University of Hong Kong was formally founded. The University serves the needs of Hong Kong and mainland China by drawing on the great cultural traditions of China and the West. The University has a student population of about 14,000 and over 900 academic staff.
